The World Beneath our Feet
with Connie Kuramoto from Gardens on the Go in Qualicum Beach

November 18, 2019 – 7-9pm at the Quadra Island Community Centre

In this talk Connie will introduce you to some of the creatures that live in your soil, what they can do for your garden, and how you can best take care of them, nurture them, and encourage them to thrive. Connie has been teaching Horticulture for over 30 years now, and has a wealth of knowledge in many areas of Horticulture but feels that the very most important thing to do for your garden is to build and nurture soil creatures who have performed soil building tasks from the early days of the planet. Paying attention to the microbial populations reduces the need for fertilizer and water in your garden, and will provide your garden with a vibrancy that you will notice.

About Connie Kuramoto:

Connie Kuramoto has been teaching Horticulture for over thirty years.  She has taught for Vancouver Island University, North Island College, Humber College, and Gaia College, and has given countless talks and workshops throughout Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.  Connie has always been outspoken concerning the ecological impacts of Agriculture and Horticulture, and has always searched out the most environmentally sound options for her teaching agenda as well as her consulting business, Gardens on the Go. Connie manages her own year round food garden on parts of her one half acre yard, and eats something from her garden every day of the year. She hopes to finish getting rid of her lawn this year by replanting it with more food and pollinator plants.
