Sprouting, Fermenting and Preserving the Harvest
with Barb Mindell from Amped on Nutrition on Quadra Island
October 7, 2019 – 7-9pm at the Quadra Island Community Centre
Barb will be covering 3 topics pertaining to preserving your fresh garden produce:
#1 Sprouting for a winter garden – It’s a garden in a bottle. I’ll be demonstrating all the steps to grow sprouts and tips on how to keep them fresh for 2 weeks for your nutritional needs in the winter.
#2 Hot water bath canning to preserve your fresh garden fruit and vegetables.
#3 Fermentation demonstration – How to ferment your garden vegetables to supply one year’s worth of probiotic, enzyme rich, nutrient dense food that will be preserved on hand for when there are few fresh veggies in your crisper. Fermented foods make an instant side dish or replacement for a salad in the cold of winter.
Come get inspired on preserving your produce!

Connie Kuramoto has been teaching Horticulture for over thirty years. She has taught for Vancouver Island University, North Island College, Humber College, and Gaia College, and has given countless talks and workshops throughout Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
